Reveille is doing well

September 18th, 2009

Reveille is down for a nap right now and I thought I would just give everyone a general update. The last few weeks have been significant in her development. During her weekly physical therapy, she has started to hold herself up on her hands and knees. It is daunting to think that before too very long she will be cruising around our home. It will also be an undertaking to baby proof everything. She is also seeing an occupational therapist twice a month and will start seeing a speech therapist soon. Each individual is great and it is encouraging to have so many people aiding Reveille as she recognizes the world around her more and interacts with it on a larger scale. We have also begun solid foods. To be honest, she hasn’t taken to them that quickly and is still trying to grasp the whole spoon thing. We have not seemed to find any flavors she really enjoys either, but we just raided Target and got about every fruit & vegetable combo we could. Hopefully over the next few days we’ll find a few things that dazzle her little palette. Finally, we are asked pretty consistently about how her relationship with our dogs is. They continue to sniff her and giver her licks every once and a while, but that is all the interest they have. Reveille on the other hand has taken to them a bit more. She enjoys the feeling of furry things and has taken an interest in grabbing Mesquite, our dog with the longest coat. He tolerates it like a champ. Although, after so long he will leave when he has had enough. That is it for now. Halloween is fast approaching and we still have to choose a costume for her. No matter what she ends up being I am sure some fun pictures will come out of it and I look forward to posting them for everyone to see.

Early intervention

March 26th, 2009

On Monday March 23rd, 2009 Revie had her evaluation with the Easter Seals therapists. I was very pleased with the knowledge and care that all the therapists conveied during our meeting. My only complaint was they did not have enough information about Revies hospital tests and results. A more detailed history from the hospital would have been nice. During her evaluation Revie had to be only in her diaper, well she also had her full leg cast and a sock to protect her other foot from the rough edges of the cast. She was wide awake as I put her on the blanket in the middle of the 4 therapists. I began by putting her on her belly which she quickly showed them that she could roll to her back from that position. I was very glad she showed them that she could do that and also how well she can hold up her head and move it from side to side. She was a bit wild moving her legs(cast leg included) and arms all around. Though according to all the therapists she is doing very well and say that her being on her belly for her first two weeks of life was acually really good for her development. The next course for early intervention is for them to come back in 3 months so end of June. Physical therapy would have done more but having the casting till the end of May caused a draw back. I will get some exercises to do with her in the mean time. But all in all they say we are doing everything we should be and they think she is doing very well. So that visit was positive. What a relief!
